Russia has recently received ballistic missiles from Iran, prompting warnings from the US that they will likely be used in Ukraine. The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has stated that the cooperation between Russia and Iran poses a threat to European security and has promised new sanctions on Iran.
British Defence Secretary John Healey reported that Russia’s military has suffered significant casualties while attacking Ukraine and is nearing the communication hub of Pokrovsk. He praised Ukraine’s surprise counterattack into the Russian Kursk province for putting pressure on Putin’s forces.
The UK remains committed to training Ukrainian soldiers and increasing defense spending. Germany has also announced plans to sanction entities involved with Iran’s missile program and supplying weapons to Russia.
The Ukrainian president’s office welcomed sanctions against Iran but called for Western authorization to use weapons against Russian targets and enhanced air defense systems. Ukraine’s Prime Minister, Denys Shmyhal, announced plans to build a million drones by the end of the year, as they have doubled weapons production compared to the previous year.
In response to a large-scale drone attack on the Moscow region by Ukraine, the Kremlin’s spokesperson stated that the Kyiv regime is Russia’s enemy. The attack killed one person and forced airport closures in Moscow.
Germany is expanding border controls to protect against irregular migration and extremist threats, with the Austrian Interior Minister stating they will not accept migrants turned away by Germany. Dutch far-right politician Geert Wilders has supported these measures and called for similar actions in the Netherlands.
