A district judge in Letcher County, Kentucky was fatally shot in his chambers, according to Governor Andy Beshear. The shooting occurred on Thursday afternoon, but no further details were provided. Law enforcement agencies, including Kentucky State Police, the Letcher County Sheriff’s Office, and the Whitesburg Police Department, did not immediately comment on the incident. Letcher County Central High School was placed on lockdown due to the active shooting downtown, but students were later released as the shooter had been apprehended. The Kentucky Court of Justice is working with state police to assist in the investigation of the tragic event. Attorney General Russell Coleman promised a full investigation and will collaborate with the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 27th Judicial Circuit.
