The FBI, along with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Criminal Investigation Division and Coast Guard Investigative Services, are conducting law enforcement activity on the Maersk Saltoro, a vessel managed by the same company as the cargo ship that caused the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The owner of the vessel, Grace Ocean Private Limited, and its operator, Synergy Marine Group, have been contacted for comment. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland and U.S. Coast Guard have also been reached out to for comment. The cargo ship, the Dali, suffered power losses before striking the bridge on March 26, leading to the collapse of the bridge and the deaths of six construction workers. According to a report from the National Transportation Safety Board, the ship’s electrical problems were ignored prior to the incident. The U.S. Justice Department has filed a lawsuit alleging that the companies cut corners and ignored issues with the ship before the crash. This is a developing story and updates are expected.
