Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign has accepted an invitation to participate in a second debate with former President Donald Trump on October 23 hosted by CNN, according to a statement from campaign chair Jennifer O’Malley Dillon. The campaign believes that the American people deserve another opportunity to see the two debate before casting their ballots. This announcement comes after Harris mentioned at an event in Georgia that she was trying to secure another debate. The Trump campaign has stated that there will be no third debate, with Trump himself saying it isn’t necessary as voting has already started. The potential debate on October 23 would be a rematch after the first debate between Harris and Trump on September 10, which was hosted by ABC. Trump had also debated President Joe Biden on CNN in June. The statement from Harris’s campaign suggests that the format and setup of the proposed CNN debate are similar to one that Trump attended in June and praised. However, the CNN spokesperson did not immediately respond to the new proposal. If the debate takes place, it would occur less than two weeks before Election Day, but during early voting in multiple states.
