Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov clarified that Russian President Vladimir Putin was joking when he said that Moscow supported Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election in November. Lavrov mentioned that Putin has a good sense of humor and often makes jokes during statements and interviews. Lavrov also claimed that Russia’s attitude towards the U.S. elections remains consistent due to the influence of the “deep state”, without providing evidence for this assertion.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to travel to the United States to present Kyiv’s “victory plan” in the ongoing war against Russia. Zelenskyy hopes to meet with former President Donald Trump, along with current President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, during his visit. He previously spoke with Trump over the phone in July but has not met him in person since Trump’s term ended in 2021.
Zelenskyy’s plan aims to end the war with Russia through diplomatic means and relies on support from key allies, including the U.S. He is expected to seek increased military, economic, and diplomatic assistance from Washington to combat Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine. Despite recent fighting in the region, Zelenskyy remains committed to achieving a just peace and has ruled out freezing the conflict, arguing that it would only delay Russian aggression.
