Brett Favre reveals Parkinson’s diagnosis to Congress

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre revealed that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease while testifying before Congress about allegedly misusing taxpayer money. Favre explained that he lost money in an investment in a company developing a concussion drug, which led to the diagnosis. Parkinson’s is a brain disorder that causes uncontrollable movements and worsens over time. A study published last year linked a history of playing football to a higher risk of Parkinson’s. Favre, who played 20 seasons in the NFL and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016, was in Washington to address accusations of improperly receiving government funds and lobbying for money to go to a volleyball facility at his alma mater. Despite not being criminally charged, Favre is repaying some of the money. U.S. Rep. Linda Sanchez called for reforms to prevent wealthy individuals like Favre from taking advantage of programs meant for vulnerable populations. Favre asserted that he did nothing wrong and was unaware that the money he received came from taxpayers.
