Ukrainian military recruitment officers have conducted raids in various establishments in the capital Kyiv, checking for military registration documents and detaining non-compliant men. This reflects Ukraine’s need for fresh recruits, as all men aged 25-60 are eligible for conscription and those aged 18-60 are not allowed to leave the country. Similar raids were reported in other Ukrainian cities.
In response to the escalating tensions, the Russian army conducted a massive air strike on civilian infrastructure in the eastern city of Sumy. There were no casualties reported, but the strikes caused damage to residential buildings and administrative offices. Local authorities continued to evacuate residents from frontline areas in Sumy region.
Furthermore, three civilians, including a 12-year-old child, were injured in a Russian airstrike in the southern city of Zaporizhzhia. The attack targeted a residential area and local infrastructure. These incidents come as Ukraine intensifies its mobilisation drive, with the Defence Council deciding to evacuate a total of 45,000 residents from Sumy amid the ongoing fighting.
These acts of aggression highlight the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, with tensions continuing to rise. The Ukrainian government is prioritising the safety of its citizens and taking steps to increase its military strength in response to these threats. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, as concerns grow over the potential for further escalation in the region.
