Tech billionaire Elon Musk stated during a town hall event in Oaks, Pennsylvania, that he believes voting should be done in person with paper ballots and identification to prevent potential voter fraud. However, Musk himself has a history of voting by mail and supporting his pro-Trump super PAC’s efforts to promote mail-in and absentee voting. Musk’s super PAC, America PAC, has received nearly $75 million from him and is encouraging absentee voting this year. Despite this, Musk has continually expressed his opposition to mail-in voting, citing potential for fraud. During the event, Musk also promoted debunked conspiracy theories about Dominion Voting Systems and suggested that evidence of voter fraud should be shared on his social media app X. He discussed various topics, including business advice and conspiracy theories, and expressed support for hiring conservative activist Scott Presler. Musk also made a joke about the lack of charges in connection to pipe bombs left near the U.S. Capitol before the January 6th attack, implying that the perpetrator may be a federal employee. Musk’s statements and actions regarding voting practices and conspiracy theories have sparked controversy and criticism.
