Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s holiday home in the town of Caesarea was hit by a drone, triggering air raid sirens across Israel, including Tel Aviv. The attack, which is being treated as an assassination attempt, has caused a great deal of concern in the Israeli security establishment. The drone attack was part of a larger incident that involved the firing of more than 100 rockets from Lebanon towards northern Israel, injuring at least 13 people.
Iran-aligned Hezbollah has been involved in trading fire with Israel since last October. The Israeli military intercepted two other drones launched from Lebanon, but one successfully targeted Netanyahu’s residence. The attack was carried out using a decoy of rockets to launch the drone strike.
Sirens were activated across Haifa and other areas in Israel as a precautionary measure. Haifa, the largest city in northern Israel, is considered a strategic port city with a significant population and the country’s naval headquarters. Al Jazeera has been banned in Israel, but reports from Amman, Jordan confirm the seriousness with which the Israeli authorities are treating the attack on Netanyahu’s home.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of prominent figures and the ability of drones to carry out targeted attacks from a distance. The Israeli security establishment is on high alert following the incident, as they work to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of the country’s leaders and citizens.
