As the election approaches, both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are targeting Black men as a crucial voting bloc in a tight race. A majority of the Black men in a recent poll support Harris, but some are hesitant due to concerns about her record as a prosecutor. Despite this, Black turnout could make a difference in key battleground states. However, a historic gender gap shows Trump performing better with men of all races.
The Harris campaign has been actively working to attract Black men, focusing on policy agendas that benefit them. On the other hand, Trump’s efforts to reach Black men have lessened in recent months. Some Black men support Trump due to his stance against foreign adversaries, despite concerns about his controversial policies and racist rhetoric.
The interviews with seven Black men from around the country show a range of perspectives. While some are inspired by Harris and view her presidency as beneficial for the country, others remain skeptical of her record as attorney general. Overall, Black men’s support for Harris has increased, while concerns about education and other issues specific to the Black community remain important factors in their voting decisions. Despite differing views, all agree on the significance of the upcoming election and the impact it could have on the future of the country.
