Dread of AI: Tim Burton Opens Exhibition in London

Tim Burton’s “The World of Tim Burton” exhibition is set to open at London’s Design Museum, featuring 90 new items. Burton, known for his gothic and whimsical film creations, shared his thoughts on the exhibition and his dislike for Artificial Intelligence (AI). He expressed his discomfort with AI technology, mentioning a website using AI to blend his drawings with Disney characters that gave him a “weird sort of scary feeling inside.” Despite acknowledging that AI is unstoppable, Burton stated he prefers to stick to traditional analogue artistry.

The exhibition showcases 600 items from movie studio collections and Burton’s personal archive, highlighting his creative process from sketches to collaboration with designers. It includes iconic items from Burton’s films such as “Edward Scissorhands,” “Batman,” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

London marks the final stop of the exhibition’s decade-long tour in 14 cities across 11 countries. Tim Marlow, CEO of the Design Museum, praised Burton’s ability to create fantastical film worlds blending horror, comedy, and whimsy. Burton himself admitted feeling overwhelmed by the display, likening it to seeing his “dirty laundry put on the walls.”

“The World of Tim Burton” opens tomorrow at the Design Museum in London and runs until April 21, 2025. Visitors can expect to immerse themselves in the visionary and enchanting world of Tim Burton’s unique creativity.
