Six people were rescued from a collapsed home in Jefferson City, Missouri after an unexplained explosion caused the structure to mangle. The victims were taken to University Hospital in Columbia with moderate to severe injuries, with three of them in critical condition. Some of the injured individuals required life-saving procedures, and two were airlifted to the trauma center for faster treatment. The gender and age of the victims were not released.
Emergency responders were called to the scene early in the morning after reports of an explosion. The collapsed home was difficult to navigate due to extensive structural damage and debris. Rescuers had to tunnel through multiple layers of rubble to reach the victims, a process that took more than three hours. Two pets were also rescued from the wreckage.
The cause of the explosion remained under investigation. The Jefferson City Fire Department stated that they were fortunate to have the necessary equipment and trained personnel to handle the rescue operation. The state capital, Jefferson City, is located about 133 miles west of St. Louis. The condition of the victims and the status of the investigation were not immediately available.
