Shore Republicans in New Jersey Support Gas Tax Increase in 2025

Several New Jersey Republican lawmakers at the Jersey Shore have given Democrats the green light on a gas tax increase that will be implemented starting January 1, 2024. The 2.6-cent-per-gallon increase is part of a transportation funding bill that supports infrastructure projects across the state. Republican lawmakers Senators Robert Singer, James Holzapfel, Tom Kean, Assemblymen Rob Clifton, and Alex Sauickie supported the bill, while Senators Carmen Amato and Michael Testa opposed it.

In addition to the gas tax increase, the bill imposes a new annual fee for zero-emission vehicles, with the funds being used to support transportation projects. State officials claim that the changes are necessary to meet rising transportation infrastructure costs and ensure funding stability for ongoing and future projects.

The new gas tax increase and additional vehicle fees are part of a five-year plan to maintain and expand New Jersey’s transportation systems. It is important for New Jersey drivers to be aware of these changes and how they will impact them moving forward. The bill was passed earlier this year and is set to come into effect at the beginning of 2024.
