National Vice Commander for the Midwest department, James Kellogg, recently visited Atlantic to discuss ways to support the Legion. Kellogg mentioned that Vice Commanders visit departments twice a year to offer assistance and support. The Midwest Department, which encompasses several states including Minnesota, Nebraska, and Kansas, is currently focusing on increasing membership. Kellogg acknowledges that veterans and military members have busy schedules but encourages everyone to get involved in the Legion in any way they can.
The Legion offers a variety of programs for its members, with one of the key focuses being “Be the One” to prevent veteran suicides. Kellogg emphasized the importance of addressing this issue, stating that more veterans have died by suicide than in all the wars fought. He highlighted that suicide affects veterans of all ages and genders.
