11 months before the election, the New Jersey gubernatorial race intensifies

The upcoming New Jersey gubernatorial race is shaping up to be a competitive one, with several candidates from both the Republican and Democratic parties vying for the nomination. On the Republican side, Jack Ciattarelli, Bill Spadea, Jon Bramnick, and Ed Durr are among the contenders. Ciattarelli, who lost to Gov. Phil Murphy in 2021, has raised significant funds for his campaign. Spadea, a conservative radio host with strong Trump support and endorsements, is also a prominent candidate. On the Democratic side, Josh Gottheimer, Sean Spiller, and Mikie Sherrill are in the running. Sherrill, the only woman candidate, has the ability to raise funds and secure important endorsements. The election is expected to be influenced by reactions to the current White House administration, as voters in New Jersey tend to vote against the sitting president. Democratic voters will have the choice of selecting a candidate focused on standing up to Trump or returning to the party’s working-class roots. Major Democratic contenders include Steven Fulop, Ras Baraka, and Steve Sweeney. The primary will take place in June.
