Law enforcement breaks up two sex-trafficking rings in New Jersey, charges 7 individuals

Two alleged sex-trafficking rings in New Jersey have been busted, leading to the indictment of seven people. One ring involved victims as young as 13 and included Khailah Meekins and Donte Barkley allegedly trafficking young girls, subjecting them to violence and sexual assaults by strangers. The girls were advertised online and taken to short-term rentals where men paid Meekins to assault them. Meekins and Barkley face human trafficking charges.

In a separate case in Cumberland County, women were lured under false pretenses to a brothel where they were forced to perform commercial sex with hundreds of men each week. Usiel Luna and three alleged co-conspirators were indicted in this ring. Authorities seized cash, drugs, and arrested Johnson on related charges.

Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin emphasized the need to end human trafficking, stating that charges will be pursued against anyone engaging in such acts. The arrests serve as a reminder of the ongoing fight against exploitation and abuse.
