Cornell Cooperative Extension of Yates County had a successful year in 2024, with several significant accomplishments. The organization saw a 59% increase in 4-H enrollment and provided over 130 educational opportunities for youth in the county. Through partnerships with local artists, CCE offered hands-on workshops and awarded scholarships totaling over $1,800.
The Cornell Vegetable Program visited over 2,200 farms and held 28 events with more than 800 attendees. The Finger Lakes Grape Program hosted educational events featuring experts from various organizations. Additionally, the Natural Resources Program Coordinator launched a podcast focusing on invasive species in the region.
CCE’s agriculture teams received a $107,000 investment from the county, which leveraged $1.9 million in extensions and applied agriculture research programs. These programs are crucial for the success of farms in Yates County, which generate over $152.4 million annually for the local economy.
Other highlights from the year include workshops on family budgeting and life skills, nutrition and cooking classes for youth, and training for new Master Gardeners. The Community Horticulture Program also harvested 710 pounds of produce for local food pantries.
The CCE of Yates County will hold its annual meeting on December 5, where they will discuss their accomplishments and future plans. The event is free and open to the public. Overall, CCE of Yates County has had a successful year in providing educational opportunities and support for the community.
