Three teens, including two minors, have been arrested for the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old man in Newark. The victim, Wed Thalerand, was sitting in his car in the Weequahic section of Newark when he was shot and killed on Sunday night. He was taken to a hospital and later died from his injuries.
Authorities have charged the three teens with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery, and weapons offenses. The suspects include 18-year-old Zaire Kelly from Newark and two underage individuals whose names have not been released. If convicted, Kelly faces a potential 30-year prison sentence, while the minors could face up to 20 years behind bars.
The motive for the shooting has not been disclosed by police. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office made the announcement of the arrests, which were reported by local news outlets.
