Undefeated Kansas City Chiefs make a big move ahead of the trade deadline, acquiring star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Titans. Despite being a five-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro, Hopkins will have to choose a new number as his regular No. 10 is already taken by injured Chiefs running back Isaiah Pacheco. Instead, Hopkins has decided to honor the late NBA legend Kobe Bryant by wearing No. 8 with the Chiefs. This change comes after Hopkins wore No. 6 during his college career at Clemson. While the receiver had previously hinted at changing his number, citing LeBron James’ switch to No. 6 with the Miami Heat as inspiration, he will now don Bryant’s number with Kansas City. Chiefs safety Bryan Cook currently wears No. 6, but he may be more willing to relinquish his number compared to Pacheco. Hopkins will now have the opportunity to continue his impressive career with a new number and a new team, catching passes from star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs’ acquisition of Hopkins adds even more firepower to an already formidable offense, as they aim to maintain their unbeaten streak through the rest of the 2024 season.
