Local officials in Cherry Hill, NJ have approved plans to replace the current office building on the Cherry Hill Mall lot with a new sports megastore. The store, which will feature a rock-climbing wall, batting cage simulator, and indoor recreation areas, will also include an outdoor turf field. The new store will be part of Dick’s House of Sport, a larger format store under Dick’s Sporting Goods brand.
The approval for the development plans was given by Cherry Hill’s Zoning Board during a recent meeting. The new store will be approximately 120,000 square feet in total, with an additional 18,500 square feet for the outdoor turf field. It will offer customers the opportunity to test out equipment and participate in sports clinics and events.
The current office building, One Cherry Hill, which has been standing since the 1970s, will be demolished to make way for the new store. The parent company of Cherry Hill Mall, PREIT, has not officially announced the store’s name, but news outlets have reported that it will be Dick’s House of Sport.
It is still unclear when the demolition of One Cherry Hill will take place and when the new store will open. More information is expected to be shared at a later date. Once completed, the new store will provide a few more parking spots at the mall, although 230 spaces will be lost during the demolition and construction process. Cherry Hill Mall currently has over 5,000 parking spaces.
