Police confirm the discovery of missing New Jersey teacher and coach’s body submerged in river

The body of missing North Jersey teacher Brian Kolakowski, 37, was found submerged in the Passaic River, police confirmed on Tuesday. Kolakowski, a physical education teacher and girls’ tennis coach at Harrison High School, had been reported missing last Wednesday. Detective work revealed that his car had entered the river via a boat ramp in Kearny. The car was located overturned and submerged in the river, and efforts to recover it were complicated by adverse weather conditions and poor visibility. Kolakowski’s body was found in the car on Tuesday, and his family was notified. Authorities stressed that there was no evidence of foul play and no threat to public safety. The Harrison community remembered Kolakowski as a dedicated teacher and coach, with a community group expressing condolences on social media. The school district said they would provide counselors for support to students and parents. Kolakowski had previously been recognized as coach of the year in his coaching role and had a positive impact on both students and colleagues.
