Former Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Jason Kelce will not face charges after an altercation outside Penn State University’s Beaver Stadium last month, in which he smashed a fan’s cellphone. The incident, which was caught on social media videos, appeared to be sparked by a slur directed at Kelce’s brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. In the videos, Kelce can be seen walking outside the stadium with a case of beer when a man shouts at him and uses a homophobic slur. Kelce then grabs the man’s phone, smashes it, picks it up, and walks away. Another video shows the man chasing after Kelce and asking for his phone back. The Penn State police department has closed the case, as the individual in the videos has not been identified or come forward to file a complaint. Kelce apologized for his actions on ESPN, stating that he regrets responding to hate with hate and acknowledging that it was not a productive reaction. Kelce has since retired and works as a commentator for ESPN, but the network declined to comment on the incident. Overall, Kelce will not face legal consequences for the altercation that occurred outside the Penn State-Ohio State game.
