US authorities have been grappling with a spate of mysterious drone sightings in recent weeks, with dozens of drones spotted across New Jersey, including near sensitive military locations and President-elect Donald Trump’s golf course. US congressman Jeff Van Drew suggested that the drones were linked to Iran, claiming they were coming from an Iranian “mothership” off the east coast. However, the Pentagon has refuted these claims, stating that there is no evidence of a foreign entity being involved in the drone sightings. Despite this, the lack of information surrounding the drones has raised concerns among lawmakers, with calls for legislation to enhance counter-drone capabilities. In a separate incident in New York City, drones were also reported flying over a neighbourhood in the Bronx. The FBI is actively investigating the sightings. Additionally, the US Air Force confirmed unidentified drone sightings over three US airbases in the UK, with suspicion falling on a “state actor”. The investigation is ongoing as authorities strive to determine the origin and purpose of these mysterious drone incursions.
