After the Philadelphia Eagles play in Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9, students in the Gloucester City, New Jersey school district will have a later start on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, due to a two-hour delayed opening. This decision was made to allow families to enjoy the game and still attend school and work safely and well-rested. A similar delay occurred in 2023 after the Eagles competed in the Super Bowl, prompting other Philadelphia area schools to also have delayed openings. Fans in Philadelphia celebrated the Eagles’ NFC title win by gathering on Broad Street, though Mayor Cherelle Parker cautioned against firing guns in celebration. Some fans have proposed making the day after the Super Bowl a holiday to allow for more rest, with the possibility of extending the NFL season to end on Presidents’ Day when many have the day off. The next opportunity to make this change would be in 2030 when the NFL’s current collective bargaining agreement expires. Joe Brandt, a digital content producer for CBS News in Philadelphia, reported on these events.
