Man in North Valley Alters Lifestyle Habits Following Heart Failure Diagnosis

Heart disease remains the top cause of death in the U.S., with rising obesity and kidney issues contributing to the problem, according to a recent report from the American Heart Association. Nicholas Bolton of Los Banos shared his story of being diagnosed with heart failure and diabetes in 2022, which led him to make significant lifestyle changes, including adopting a healthier diet and exercise routine. Bolton’s efforts have paid off, as he has lost weight, reversed his diabetes, and improved his heart function.

The 2025 American Heart Association report found that deaths related to cardiovascular disease have increased to over 940,000, with younger individuals under 40 also developing heart disease due to factors such as obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol. Nearly half of adults have high blood pressure, while obesity rates are close to 42%, and over 11% have been diagnosed with diabetes.

Dr. Vivian Torio of Kaiser Permanente in Fresno advises choosing lean meats like turkey or chicken over beef or pork and opting for grilled rather than fried foods. She emphasizes the importance of making healthy choices to prevent heart disease and other related conditions.

Bolton encourages others struggling to change their habits to not give up and listen to their doctors, as continued efforts can lead to positive outcomes. For more updates on heart health and wellness, follow Ana Torrea on social media.
