Nearly 15 years after her three sons went missing, a Michigan woman is asking a judge to declare them dead, as their father, John Skelton, never returned them after Thanksgiving. Authorities believe the brothers are deceased and suspect Skelton, but he has not been charged with killing them. The judge will begin hearing testimony at a hearing, where police investigators and the mother will discuss efforts to find the boys.
The mother, Tanya Zuvers, has been praying for closure and answers, but none have come. A lawyer specializing in probate and estate law explained that declaring someone dead can provide closure for the family and allow them to pursue a wrongful death claim. Skelton, who is currently in prison, did not respond to the petition filed by Zuvers.
The brothers, ages 9, 7, and 5, disappeared from Morenci, Michigan, in 2010. Skelton claimed they were with an underground group for safety, but investigators found his stories to be lies. Despite extensive searches in Michigan and Ohio, the boys have never been found.
At the hearing, investigators will detail the false stories Skelton provided, leading authorities on numerous wild goose chases. The community has not forgotten the Skelton brothers, with a plaque in a local park commemorating them with the words “Faith, Hope, Love.” The case remains unsolved, leaving a small town near Ohio in torment over the missing boys.
