A non-profit organization based in southern Colorado, Lalmba, is bringing digital literacy to a remote village in Kenya. The Matoso Education and Empowerment Center, a new initiative by Lalmba, introduced technology to children who had never touched a computer before. The center received five computers, and the excitement from the children and adults in the community was palpable.
Children quickly learned to navigate the computer desktop, explore educational games, and access resources like encyclopedias and Kenya’s school curriculum. Adults were also eager to learn new skills, apply for jobs, and potentially start businesses. Lalmba aims to expand by providing more computers, books, and internet access through Starlink.
The nonprofit’s goal is to open the Education and Empowerment Center officially during their annual fundraising walk in June, ensuring long-term access to digital resources for the community. With a focus on digital literacy, Lalmba hopes to support over 1,300 kids in the region and provide opportunities for growth and development.
In other news, Southern Colorado is bracing for a powerful spring storm that will bring strong winds and increase fire danger. Red Flag Warnings are in effect along and east of the I-25 corridor. Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
