‘suspicious’ blaze kicks off 2025 New Jersey wildfire season

Following a series of wildfires in New Jersey, the Forest Fire Service is investigating the cause of the Pennsville fire, which is now considered suspicious. The Hopewell wildfire, sparked by a fallen powerline, has been contained after burning 293 acres. Gusty winds on Saturday fueled fires in Pennsville, Gloucester Township, and Mercer County.

The Forest Fire Service is concerned about the upcoming wildfire season due to a lack of snow and rain during the winter months, leading to improved but still concerning drought conditions. Chief Meteorologist Dan Zarrow stresses the need for more rain to prevent water restrictions, crop struggles, and extreme fire danger in the summer.

With a total of 514 wildfires in New Jersey this year, the Forest Fire Service is closely monitoring the situation and preparing for a potentially challenging fire season. Residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to prevent wildfires.
