After nearly 30 years, an arrest has been made in the cold case murder of Tamara Tignor, a New Jersey woman who was killed and dumped in a park in 1997. The arrest of 60-year-old Robert Creter from Canada was announced by the Somerset County prosecutor’s office. Creter is accused of picking up Tignor in an orange van, sexually assaulting her, strangling her, and then dumping her body in Washington Valley Park in Bridgewater Township.
The New Jersey State Police Superintendent, Col. Patrick Callahan, praised the unwavering dedication of law enforcement in seeking justice no matter how much time has passed. Creter, who was living in North Jersey at the time of the murder, moved back to Canada in 2002. DNA technology advances in 2023 led to Creter being identified as a suspect, and he was eventually charged in May 2023, arrested in Canada in June 2024, and extradited to the U.S. last week.
The arrest of Creter in this decades-old case highlights the perseverance of law enforcement in solving cold cases and seeking justice for the victims. The case serves as a reminder that no matter how much time has passed, law enforcement will continue to work tirelessly to bring justice to those who have been wronged.
