16 individuals arrested in ICE raid on Hudson County, NJ warehouse

Last week, 16 people were arrested during a surprise raid by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at a warehouse in North Bergen, New Jersey. The warehouse is bonded to work with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to store shipments from the Port of New York/Newark. ICE officials discovered that some of the workers at the warehouse were in the United States illegally.

The raid was conducted to ensure that individuals working in government-regulated facilities were lawfully present and permitted to work in the United States. ICE and CBP, along with other agencies like the FBI Newark Field Office and the New Jersey Drug Enforcement Agency, worked together on the operation.

The goal of the raid was to identify unauthorized manipulations of commercial merchandise, noncompliance with customs regulations, and unauthorized access by employees without the authority to enter bonded areas. ICE emphasized their commitment to safeguarding the integrity of trade infrastructure and protecting the public at large. Employers are required by federal law to verify the identity and employment eligibility of all individuals they hire. Patch has reached out for more information on the suspects and their current status.
