Former NFL cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones revealed in an interview that he never used his own urine during league drug tests. During the interview with Deion Sanders on the talk show “We Got Time,” Jones discussed his retirement from the NFL in 2019, his marijuana advocacy, and how he managed to continue using marijuana throughout his career without getting caught. He admitted to cheating the program and avoiding drug tests by not using his own urine.
Sanders, also a former NFL star, pointed out that avoiding drug tests couldn’t happen today due to stricter protocols. However, Jones insisted that it was possible if you knew what you were doing. He argued that leagues should not test for marijuana, citing Olympic boxer Claressa Shields’ suspension for trace amounts after a saliva test. Jones believes that THC should not be considered a performance-enhancing drug.
In response to changing attitudes towards marijuana, the NFL modified its substance abuse policy in December 2024. The THC levels for a positive test were increased from 150 ng/ml to 350 ng/ml. Jones’ advocacy for changing drug testing policies reflects a broader discussion within the sports world about the use of marijuana and its impact on athletes.
