The Bayer executive’s home was occupied at the time of the fire, but luckily there were no significant injuries or damage reported. This incident comes in the wake of a fatal shooting targeting another drug company executive, raising fears of a potential trend of violence against healthcare industry professionals.
Last year, Luigi Mangione, a Penn grad who expressed grievances against the healthcare industry, was arrested and charged with the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. There has been a notable increase in violence against healthcare workers in general, and security officials are on high alert following these incidents.
