Rider University is gearing up to host the New Jersey gubernatorial primary debates, featuring 10 confirmed candidates vying to succeed Gov. Phil Murphy. The Democratic debate is scheduled for Feb. 2, while the Republican debate will take place on Feb. 4.
Confirmed participants for the Democratic debate include Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, Rep. Josh Gottheimer, Rep. Mikie Sherrill, NJEA President Sean Spiller, and former Senate President Steve Sweeney. On the Republican side, State Sen. Jon Bramnick, former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, former State Sen. Ed Durr, and NJ 101.5 radio host Bill Spadea will be present.
The debates, sponsored by The New Jersey Globe, On New Jersey, and Rider University’s Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics, will be moderated by Emmy Award-winning host Laura Jones. Rider’s Micah Rasmussen, alongside David Wildstein and Joey Fox of The New Jersey Globe, will serve as panelists. Save Jersey Editor Matt Rooney will join as a panelist for the Republican debate.
According to Rasmussen, hosting the debates provides an excellent opportunity for students to engage with top candidates and discuss vital issues facing New Jersey’s future. The debates will be live-streamed and available for replay on newjerseyglobe.com and onnj.com.
