Death toll from Myanmar earthquake surpasses 1000, with over 2000 injured

The death toll from a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar has increased to 1,002, with 2,376 people injured and 30 missing, according to state-run MRTV. The earthquake damaged infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and buildings, leading to casualties and injuries. International aid has started to arrive in Myanmar, with China, Russia, and the U.S. offering assistance. The U.S. Geological Survey predicted that the death toll could exceed 10,000 people in Myanmar, and that losses could surpass the country’s gross domestic product. The earthquake struck during the daytime, allowing people to better respond to the disaster. Rescue missions are being carried out in various affected areas, including Myanmar’s second-largest city, Mandalay, and in Bangkok, Thailand, where a 33-story tower collapsed. The Thai capital is searching for construction workers trapped under the rubble, with nine people dead and 101 missing. China, Russia, and the U.S. have sent rescue teams and aid to assist in the search and rescue operations. Despite the devastation caused by the earthquake, efforts to find survivors are ongoing, with authorities promising to use all available resources to save lives.
