Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, Joseph Quinn, and Harris Dickinson to headline 4 biopics about The Beatles

Sony Pictures made a strong case for the importance of theatergoing at the CinemaCon convention in Las Vegas. They announced four upcoming biopics about The Beatles, with Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn, Barry Keoghan, and Harris Dickinson set to play McCartney, Harrison, Starr, and Lennon, respectively. Director Sam Mendes promised that all four films will premiere in April 2028, providing a unique binge-able theatrical experience.

In addition to The Beatles biopics, Sony also showcased other upcoming films like Danny Boyle’s “28 Years Later,” a sequel to “28 Days Later,” and the third film in the Spider-Verse trilogy. CEO Tom Rothman encouraged theater owners to offer weekday discounts and keep films in cinemas for longer to attract audiences.

The convention comes after an Oscars push for the importance of watching movies in theaters, as the box office has been struggling in the first quarter of 2025. Sales are down 11% from the same point in 2024 and nearly 40% from 2019. Despite the challenges faced by the industry, Hollywood remains hopeful that a strong slate of upcoming films and creative initiatives will help bring audiences back to theaters.
