Thousands of protesters gathered in various locations across New Jersey on Saturday as part of a nationwide protest called “Hands Off!” against President Donald Trump’s policies and actions. More than 20 events were scheduled in New Jersey, including in cities such as Montclair, Monroe, Toms River, and Red Bank.
U.S. Sen. Cory Booker was among the officials who addressed the crowds at Brookdale Park, estimating up to 8,000 attendees. The protests aimed to speak out against Trump’s tariffs, stock market drops, Medicaid cuts, and the controversial federal government overhaul overseen by Elon Musk.
In Jersey City, participants held American flags and signs with messages such as “Hands off libraries” and “My daughter deserves better.” Concerns were raised about the executive order to increase timber production in national parks and public lands, as well as proposed tax cuts and policies affecting immigrants and same-sex marriage.
Despite the rain and cold, demonstrators expressed fear, anger, and determination to fight against what they perceived as threats to democracy and American values. The White House responded by affirming Trump’s commitment to protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid for eligible beneficiaries.
The protests were part of a larger movement across the country with events in all 50 states, including a march in Washington, D.C. The demonstrations showcased the power of people coming together to voice their concerns and push for change.
