New Jersey boy courageously fights kidney failure while family searches for living donor for transplant

Thirteen-year-old Omar Danso, a seventh-grader at Schor Middle School, is in need of a life-saving kidney transplant after being diagnosed with end-stage renal failure. His family is urgently searching for a living kidney donor as Omar undergoes nightly dialysis treatments while awaiting a transplant. What started as a suspected food sensitivity in December quickly turned into a medical emergency, with Omar spending two weeks in the hospital on hemodialysis. Now back home, he continues his battle with nightly dialysis.

His family is working with Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center to find a living donor match, with his mother currently undergoing the donor evaluation process. An awareness event is scheduled for April 26 at Riverside Park in Piscataway, featuring a 5K fun run and walk, food, music, and health information tables.

Despite his health crisis, Omar remains engaged in school, with teachers and classmates showing their support. The community is rallying around him to raise awareness about organ donation and the importance of health screenings. If you are interested in becoming a donor, you can contact cbmclivingdonor@rwjbh.org or call 973-322-5346.
