Brenda Ruth Deutsch, a 70-year-old woman from Missouri, is facing charges of neglect, child abuse, and child endangerment after allegations surfaced that she traded her foster child for an exotic monkey. Deutsch, who has fostered over 200 children in her lifetime, was arrested following initial reports of a missing child who was later found in Texas. Prosecutors are investigating claims that Deutsch traded the child for a monkey, but further investigation is needed to determine the veracity of these allegations.
According to court documents, between September 2022 and January, Deutsch allegedly physically abused the teenager by striking the child in the face, resulting in bleeding. The abuse reportedly involved the use of a paddle, wooden trim, shoes, and an open hand. Deutsch also allegedly punished the child by giving away her clothes and sending her to live in unsanitary conditions in Texas without adequate supervision. The teenager was left alone to care for exotic animals at the Texas home at times.
Authorities are also looking into allegations of child trafficking in connection with Deutsch’s case and expect the investigation to uncover over a decade’s worth of abuse allegations. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and child protective services are involved in the ongoing investigation. Deutsch’s bond has been set at $250,000, and more charges are anticipated as additional information comes to light.
