A fire at a Mavis Tire Store on Route 35 South in Sayreville, New Jersey caused the closure of a major road during the evening rush. The fire broke out just after 3 p.m. and spread from a neighboring house’s garbage pile to the Mavis store, resulting in the collapse of the roof. Fortunately, the building was empty at the time and no injuries were reported. However, the store, the neighboring house’s garage, and four cars were damaged in the fire. Two cats were rescued from the apartment above the store by a firefighter. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Route 35 has since reopened in both directions.
