The Department of Justice has charged Jamison Wagner with two counts of causing malicious damage or destruction of property by fire or explosives in relation to arson attacks on the Republican Party headquarters in New Mexico and a Tesla dealership. Wagner faces up to 20 years in prison on each count if convicted. The attacks were part of a wave of political violence targeting Tesla facilities and Republican establishments. Wagner was caught on surveillance footage at both locations and was found with suspected incendiary devices and materials for making them after authorities searched his home. The attacks, carried out in the early morning hours, resulted in damage to Tesla vehicles and the GOP office. Graffiti at the scenes included anti-Tesla and anti-ICE messages. Authorities have emphasized that hurling firebombs is not political protest and that perpetrators will be brought to justice. The attacks are believed to be connected to protests against Tesla and its owner, Elon Musk’s association with President Trump’s policies. Wagner is currently in police custody awaiting a detention hearing.
