Divorce Attorney of Slain Woman Arrested in Connection with Her 2013 Murder

More than twelve years after Aliza Sherman was fatally assaulted in downtown Cleveland, police have arrested Gregory Moore, 51, who is indicted for her murder. Moore, who was Sherman’s former divorce attorney, faces severe charges, including one count of aggravated murder and six counts of murder. Sherman, a 53-year-old nurse and mother of four, was attacked while waiting outside Moore’s office on March 24, 2013.

Security footage had previously shown an unidentified hooded figure fleeing the scene. The case remained unsolved until the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations, after NBC’s “Dateline” highlighted it, began reinvestigating in 2021. Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley stated that investigations led to evidence suggesting Moore orchestrated the brutal attack.

According to the indictment, on the day of the murder, Moore arranged to meet Sherman at his office and communicated with her before and after the assault, allegedly to create an illusion of innocence. He is accused of stabbing her over ten times, motivated by a desire to prevent her divorce trial, which was set to begin the following day.

At the time of Sherman’s murder, Moore was under investigation for unrelated bomb threats aimed at delaying court appearances. He had previously pleaded guilty in 2017 to charges related to those threats and providing misleading statements to authorities during the Sherman case.

Moore, who has not yet retained an attorney, is scheduled for arraignment at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center. The Sherman family has awaited answers about her homicide for over a decade.
