Union, N.J. (May 3, 2025) – The Kean University softball team made an impressive comeback, defeating The College of New Jersey with a commanding score of 10-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament elimination bracket.
The Cougars started slow, trailing by two runs after the third inning, thanks to a two-run single by Julia Kinnally from TCNJ. A run scored on a wild pitch, followed by a two-RBI single from rookie Gina Mahlik, put the Cougars ahead 3-2. Kean extended their lead significantly with a two-RBI triple from Kylie Petak, culminating in a five-run advantage at 7-2.
Brianna Sciulli’s walk-off single sealed the victory under mercy rule provisions, driving in two additional runs. Notably, Mahlik finished the day with a stellar 3-for-3 performance at the plate. In the circle, Samantha Raymond earned the win, pitching a complete game while yielding just six hits.
The Cougars (21-21) now advance to face Montclair State on Tuesday at Rowan University at 1 p.m.
