New Sport "Slugball" Debuts at Trenton’s Arm & Hammer Park
Trenton, NJ — Arm & Hammer Park, the home of Trenton Thunder, is welcoming an exciting new game to its pitch: Slugbball. Unlike traditional baseball, this innovative sport focuses solely on hitting, making it accessible for everyone in the community.
Co-founded by former MLB stars Mike Gossner and Ruben Amaro Jr., Slugbball offers a unique twist on traditional baseball with a fast-paced format. Each game consists of four rounds with four hitters per round, where players have 35 seconds to take eight swings in various directional challenges. The aim? To hit to specific areas rather than focusing on power or distance.

Gossner underscored that Slugbball emphasizes fun and competition while engaging players of all abilities. "It’s not how hard you hit it, how far you hit it, it’s where you hit it," said Jeff Ricardo, a local high school baseball coach, highlighting the sport’s inclusive nature.
During their initial attempts, Beckman scored two points, while his colleague managed one after 16 swings, illustrating the fun and light-hearted challenge that Slugbball presents.
The game’s brief duration—approximately 25 minutes—caters perfectly to today’s fast-paced lifestyles. Gossner aims to expand the sport gradually, with six organized events scheduled this year, including two in Trenton.
