New Details Reveal Online Behavior of Idaho College Murder Suspect Bryan Kohberger

Six weeks before the tragic stabbings of four University of Idaho students on November 13, 2022, Bryan Kohberger, a 27-year-old doctoral student in criminology at Washington State University, faced significant professional challenges. As a teaching assistant, he received complaints about being overly demanding and had conflicts with colleagues, prompting a dean to discuss his behavior with him.

Investigations revealed that Kohberger had a troubling online presence; his cell phone browsing history showed numerous photos of female students, including some who knew the victims. Kohberger’s digital footprint suggests he spent considerable time in Moscow, Idaho, where he visited multiple times leading up to the murders. His behavior included Googling terms related to sociopathic traits and patterns typically associated with violent crime.

On the night of the murders, as the victims celebrated a football game, Kohberger’s white Hyundai Elantra was seen circling the area multiple times. Eyewitness accounts also indicated that a masked figure was spotted leaving the scene. The victims were brutally stabbed, and police found a knife sheath beside one of the bodies.

Kohberger’s phone activity post-murder shows searches related to the crime and serial killer Ted Bundy. After returning to Pennsylvania, he was arrested on December 30, 2022, following DNA evidence linked to the sheath found at the crime scene. Kohberger pleaded not guilty to four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary. His defense claims he maintains his innocence, hinting at the possibility of another suspect. The high-profile case has garnered extensive media attention, set to proceed to trial in August.
