FBI Deputy Director Announces Increased Focus on Cases, Including Supreme Court Leak and White House Cocaine Incident

Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino announced on Monday that the agency will reinvestigate several unsolved cases from the Biden administration that have attracted significant public interest and fueled allegations of corruption from Donald Trump’s supporters. Bongino highlighted three specific cases involving “potential public corruption,” namely: the investigation of two pipe bombs found near Democratic and Republican party headquarters on January 6, 2021; the discovery of cocaine in the White House in 2023; and the leak of a Supreme Court decision regarding abortion rights in 2022. The Supreme Court leak investigation, which had closed after eight months without identifying a suspect, is set to be reopened.

Bongino noted that he receives weekly briefings on these matters and claims that progress is being made. This renewed focus on these investigations comes amid pressure for the FBI to address accusations from Trump allies about the Biden administration allegedly weaponizing the Justice Department.

Prior to his term, Bongino suggested that the FBI was withholding information about the identity of the pipe bomber, implying it might have been an “inside job.” In January, the FBI released video footage of a masked suspect linked to the pipe bombs. Regarding the cocaine discovery, Bongino claimed it likely belonged to a Biden family member, stating that it was improbable for anyone else to have brought it into the White House. The Secret Service investigation into the cocaine found no usable DNA or fingerprints and failed to produce leads from security footage, which covered an extensive list of 500 potential individuals. Bongino’s initiatives mark a notable increase in scrutiny over these high-profile cases.
