Seaside Heights Boardwalk Erupts in Violence Over Memorial Day Weekend
SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ — This Memorial Day weekend, Seaside Heights experienced a surge of violence, including multiple fights and stabbings on the boardwalk. The incidents occurred despite city officials’ efforts to maintain safety, including a 10 p.m. curfew for individuals under 18 and an increased police presence.
As disturbances continued past the curfew, authorities made the decision to close the boardwalk to all visitors at midnight. Fortunately, none of the reported stabbings were life-threatening, and several arrests have been made. Local police nearly doubled their manpower, enlisting support from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department to help manage the situation.
Authorities are intensifying efforts to crack down on unruly gatherings and enforce curfews throughout the summer in response to this weekend’s violence. Janice Yu reported on the heightened enforcement by local police in the area, aiming to ensure a safer environment for visitors and residents alike.
As the summer season approaches, the community remains vigilant, hoping for a peaceful tourist experience moving forward.
