Super Bowl Champion Launches Beach Football League in Wildwood, NJ
As American Football continues to soar in popularity, former NFL linebacker Tully Banta-Cain is set to introduce an exciting new dimension with the Beach Football League (BFL) in South Jersey this summer.
On June 7th and 8th, the Schellenger Avenue Beach in Wildwood will host the inaugural BFL Wildwood Open, featuring an eight-team double-elimination tournament. This event aims to merge the thrill of football with summer festivities, as attendees will enjoy a beach party atmosphere with a beer garden sponsored by local brewing companies.
Banta-Cain, a two-time Super Bowl Champion with the New England Patriots, shared his vision of the BFL during an appearance on The Locker Room with Billy Schweim on 973 ESPN South Jersey. "The Beach Football League is having open tryouts; anyone can come down and sign up, either as individuals or with their own teams," he said. The league will feature both flag and tackle football, providing opportunities for all skill levels.
Joining Banta-Cain will be notable former NFL players, including DeSean Jackson and Malik Jackson, who promise to elevate the excitement of the event. DeSean Jackson holds the distinction of being one of the top wide receivers in Philadelphia Eagles history, while Malik Jackson brings championship experience from his time with the Broncos and Eagles.
The BFL is part of a growing trend in American football, especially with flag football set to debut in the 2028 Olympics. NFL’s investment in youth leagues over the past 25 years has also contributed to the sport’s soaring popularity.
