New Jersey Prepares for Primary Election Day on June 10
New Jersey voters are gearing up to participate in the state’s closed 2025 primary election set for Tuesday, June 10. Important election details have been released to ensure voters are prepared.
Key deadlines are crucial for a smooth voting process: May 20 is the final day to register, followed by June 3 for mail ballot requests. Early voting occurs from June 6 to June 8, while June 9 is the last day to request a mail ballot in person. On Election Day, voters must return their mail ballots by 8 p.m. to be counted.
To participate, voters must meet specific criteria: they must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old, residents of their voting county for at least 30 days, and registered with a political party. This year’s closed primary means that only registered Democrats and Republicans can vote for their party’s nominees; unaffiliated voters must declare a party affiliation to participate.
Those opting to vote by mail should complete a ballot application and submit it to their county clerk. Completed ballots must be returned via mail, drop box, or directly to the elections office by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
In-person early voting will be available from June 6 to June 8 at designated locations, operating from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Polls will be open on Election Day from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and anyone in line at that time will be allowed to vote.
On the ballot are candidates for the Democratic and Republican nominations for governor and seats in the general assemblies for districts 1-16. Voters can view a sample ballot online based on their address.
