Press Article: Young Yankees Stars Shine in Somerset Victory
In front of the largest crowd of the season at TD Bank Ballpark, the Somerset Patriots clinched a 3-1 victory over the Akron Rubber Ducks, salvaging a game in their six-game series. Pitcher Cam Schlittler delivered an impressive performance, blanking the Rubber Ducks for five innings while allowing just two hits and striking out six batters. This marks Schlittler’s fourth win of the season and his third scoreless outing, solidifying him as one of the top prospects in the Yankees’ farm system, ranked 10th overall. His current statistics include second place in the Eastern League for innings pitched (53.0) and strikeouts (64), and fourth in ERA at 2.38.
The game’s turning point came in the bottom of the fourth, when Rafael Flores launched a powerful three-run homer to left field, giving the Patriots a commanding 3-0 lead. Flores is leading the Eastern League with 11 home runs, boasting a .286 batting average and 37 RBIs this season.
Spencer Jones also made an impact in his third game back with Somerset, going 1-for-3 with a run scored, and now holds a .375 average since rejoining the team. Overall, Jones is hitting .240 this year with nine home runs.
Additionally, Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm, playing his third game for Somerset, went 0-for-3. However, he previously showcased potential with a .333 average in his rehab games. Future decisions regarding Chisholm’s status await as Somerset prepares for a road trip to Binghamton, while the Yankees prepare to host the Cleveland Guardians.
This win not only highlights the potential of young talents but also brings momentum to the Patriots as they look ahead in the season.
