Title: Family of Freed Hostage Edan Alexander Backs Josh Gottheimer in Tight Governor Primary
Edan Alexander, a New Jersey native recently released after 19 months as a hostage in Gaza, and his family have publicly endorsed U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer in his bid for New Jersey’s governorship. Alexander, a soldier in the Israeli army, was freed on May 11, becoming the last living American hostage held by Hamas following the October 7 attacks. Raised in Tenafly, where Gottheimer also resides, the Alexander family expressed their gratitude in a letter highlighting Gottheimer’s unwavering support throughout their ordeal.
In the letter, read by family friend Shirly Zaifma at a campaign event, the Alexanders thanked Gottheimer for his advocacy, describing him as a “mensch” who opened doors and offered critical assistance during their difficult times. The family stated, “We can’t wait to thank you in person and … to call you Governor Josh in November.”
As early in-person voting begins ahead of the June 10 primary, Gottheimer, a strong pro-Israel voice, is vying against five Democrats, including U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill, in a competitive race. The outcome of the primary will pave the way for the nominees in the November general election.
